Workshops

Forest Renewal Co-operative specializes in workshop development. Each year we host our Annual General Meeting and Workshop. On several occasions, we have been commissioned by individual groups to develop topical workshops.

Recently, we worked with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources to host the Thin Green Line, an international symposium on planting stock and stand establishment practices to enhance forest productivity. The event was held in Thunder Bay, with delegates from 9 countries.

Last year we worked with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and KBM Forestry Consultant Inc. to develop an interactive stock handling workshop geared to nursery workers and tree planters. We have presented this workshop in Dryden, Elk Lake, Thunder Bay, North Bay, Kemptville and Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba. We cover topics such as the physiology of tree seedlings, causes of stress, pathogens affecting tree seedlings and recommendations on how to reduce stress to seedlings in the nursery and the field. The workshop format provides opportunity for debate, discussion and quizzes to test your knowledge.

We have also co-ordinated workshops on

  • Hybrid Cultivation and Management
  • Seedling Nutrition and Fertilization
  • Careful Stock Handling
  • Marketing and Exporting
  • Intensive Forest Management

Please contact us if you would like a copy of proceedings or speaker’s notes from these workshops.

If you would like to co-host a workshop, we can work with you to:

  • research and develop a curriculum
  • co-ordinate venue
  • find sponsors for the event
  • advertise the event
  • manage registration and administration
  • co-ordinate expert speakers
  • tailor the style and format to your group
  • travel to your location
  • develop take home materials
  • facilitate discussions, debates, quizzes and demonstrations

We are always open to workshop ideas for our Annual General Meeting and Fall Workshop. Contact us if there is a topic you would like covered.
