The symposium will be held at the Valhalla Inn, Thunder Bay, Ontario.
Field Tour
On Day 3 of the symposium, Wednesday, July 27, 2005, participants will take
part in a field tour of reforestation activities in selected area forests, forest
operations, field trials, and tree nurseries. Participants will see examples of
current practices of site preparation, competition control, and nursery stock
production. The tour will include visits to an area container seedling nursery
and a variety of sites where stands have been established within the past five
years. The tour will also showcase older plantations, with a retrospective look
at how past forest regeneration practices have affected such indicators of
sustainability as stand yield, biodiversity, and wildlife habitat. The tour will
include visits of forest operations in practice, such as tree planting, site
preparation, thinning, and harvesting.*Note: Please bring appropriate footwear
